Stratford, CT – On May 15, 2010, from 9 a .m. to 1 p.m., it’s time to spring clean the high-tech way–rid yourself of all those dusty old printers, outdated TVs, computers parts, obsolete stereos, speakers and more at the “It’s Electric!” Electronics Recycling Day, 96 Chapel Street, Stratford.
Local non-profits Electronic Recycling & Research Corp. and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Bridgeport (UUCGB) are offering a safe drop-off for items that would cause harm to the environment if tossed in the landfills.
But it’s NOT just a drop-off! The UUCGB Social Justice Committee will offer information about recycling in the surrounding towns and answer questions about how electronic parts are handled and recycled. A Tinker Table will be available for kids young and old to get their hands on the guts of these devices. And best of all, tickets for awesome raffle prizes will be available for a bargain price!
WHY DO IT? Harmful materials like lead, arsenic, and nitrogen triflouride (NF3) leach from these devices at the landfill — and into your air, ground, and drinking water! That’s one good reason! And why not clear out some junk from your basement or garage, and snag a tax-deductible receipt? It’s a win-win-win!
Items we are collecting include: Computers and monitors, functioning TVs; any VCRs, CD & DVD players; Stereos and speakers; Fax machines; Copiers and printers.
Items we are NOT collecting: ANY smashed or leaking device; non-functioning televisions; appliances.
Donations for collection of items are: $10 for CRT (non-flat screen) monitors and television, and $5 for other items.
