More than two decades ago, Haight Vineyard planted Chardonnay and Riesling on the slopes of the Litchfield Hills, near the historic town of Litchfield. In 1978, the State Legislature passed a Farm Winery Act and Haight Vineyard became Connecticut’s first established winery.
Today, the tradition at Haight continues under new ownership. Courtney Brown & Amy Senew purchased Haight Vineyard from its founder, Sherman Haight Jr, in March, 2007. They intend to maintain the family run winery appeal while at the same providing some much needed love and care to the vineyards and winery.
The Haight-Brown Vineyard and Winery is situated on ten pastoral acres, representative of a New England farm winery. The Tasting Room includes a custom built wine bar for tasting each of the eleven vintages, guided by the knowledge of educated and friendly staff, a terrace for sipping wine in lazy summer days, and a stone fireplace for lingering during chilly winter ones.
Weekly events offer a great opportunity to learn about wines, cheeses, chocolates, or just to socialize. The winery is also available for private functions including tastings and receptions. (Source: CTWine.com)
The annual Harvest Festival features hay rides, shopping, grape stomping, kids activities, locally brewed beer, food and , of course…WINE. Wine tastings, wine by the glass, wine cellar & vineyard tours, etc..
