I am contacting you about an upcoming initiative that I hope you will consider soon adding to your Events Calendar for Summer 2020.

Discovering Amistad’s Summer Leadership Academy (SLA) will take place July 13-24 and it promises to be an inspiring, engaging and timely experience for CT-based young people looking for something meaningful to do this summer.

The Summer Leadership Academy is a two-week training and educational program for CT-based High School students (entering grades 10-12). Through distance learning (live webinars and online chats & workshops) led by educators, facilitators and guest speakers, our participants will together:
· Learn the history of the Amistad uprising of 1839 and its current-day implications
· Build leadership and teamwork skills
· Learn the impact & tools of non-violent activism
· Collaborate on a social justice-based service project

We will explore issues of identity, equality, oppression, privilege and so much more.

Ultimately, the Summer Leadership Academy is about identifying and investing in our communities and in our next generation of leaders. And, please know it is being offered at no cost to our participants.

We are hoping that you will help us spread the word via your website during the registration period, which closes June 19.
