Shelton, CT– Even with the clouds and slight drizzle the crowds came out to Shelton, CT for the third annual SOUPSTOCK Music and Arts Festival this past Saturday, June 9, which is the fundraising event for the Mary A. Schmecker Turtle Shell Fund.
The 3rd annual SOUPSTOCK pro/amateur soup cook off was a hit. For a very small $7 donation you were able to taste 13 tantalizing soups for the entire day. Once you tried every soup you were able to take your 10 tickets and vote on your favorites. The soups that stood out to our team was the Tortilla soup which was like a Mexican party in a cup, the butternut squash soup which brought you back to a beautiful day in the fall, and the cream of mushroom soup which was so authentic is tasted like the mushrooms were picked that day.
This year’s winner was Chick Tortilla Soup (#2) and Paradise Soup (#13) and Cream of Mushroom Soup (#12) placing second and third respectively.
After filling up on the delicious soups you could relax on the lawn and listen to music from one of the two stages. Once you had time to digest you could visit one of the 30 craft and food vendors. From the massage tent, local honey vendor, homemade soaps and jewelry, to Rita’s water ice, there was something for everyone. In the kids area you could get your jump on in the bounce house, have a hula hooping contest, or create a crown in the arts n’ crafts section. Before you packed up and went home you were able to visit the raffle booth, for $7 you were able to put your 10 tickets in your desired prize container. Good luck to those who entered.
All in all this year’s SOUPSTOCK was a great success and we are already looking forward to next year. Who knows you might see one of the CT Weekender’s team member’s part of the 4rd annual SOUPSTOCK pro/amateur soup cook off!

Chicken Tortilla – hands down! But I enjoyed the Rueben and the Cream of Mushroom soup as well!
