If you dare to spend a few hours roaming through secret passageways and chilling corners then you’ve come to the right place. We have compiled a list of the most spine-chilling haunted houses in Connecticut that are guaranteed to be bigger, better and more frightening this year.

1. Trail of Terror

This outdoor attraction is one of the best premier terror attractions in the state. This unique, frightening trail will satisfy your Halloween cravings as it leads you through various themes both inside and outside. Not only will characters jump out in unexpected moments, get ready to crawl through spaces, slide down and walk upstairs. These interactive scenes and you’re not so favorite scary movie characters are awaiting you in the dark—so enter if you dare.

2. Nightmare on Wolcott Street

Growing from just a couple of rooms to an enormous 55 room terror attraction, The Nightmare on Wolcott Street is guaranteed to make the hair on the back of your neck stand. Walked at a brisk pace, this indoor walk takes you through a labyrinth of chainsaws, creepy sounds, and bloody masks. The 70 actors lurking in these rooms will not let you leave with a scream. Older teens and adults won’t get much of a scare from this haunted house, but younger kids will love it.

3. The Haunted Graveyard at Lake Compounce

Named New England’s largest Halloween attraction, this winding path of catacombs, eerie graveyards, and the reapers realm are sure to get your blood rushing. Much scarier than an average haunted house, this trail will lead you through 200 actors dressed as ghouls, werewolves, vampires and any other creature that lurked in your childhood nightmares. The optical illusions which explore different phobias and scents throughout the walk will surely not disappoint.

4. Fright Haven

With the tagline “You’ll be too scared to scream”, you know that this 20,000 square foot indoor attraction has to be nothing short of terrifying. Bringing those gory horror movies from the 1960s to life, this Halloween attraction is sure to give you a good scare. Knowing that this is held in an abandoned health club can already send chills down your back. Fright Haven’s combination of live actors, pneumatically operated witches and ghouls, and optical illusions will send you running through the labyrinth of scenes.

5. Dark Manor

Many are driven mad by the terror lurking in the shadows of The Manor. This haunted experience is isolated in Connecticut’s countryside and leaves you facing the terrors of not only The Manor but also The Graveyard and The Catacombs. Plunging into the surroundings of creeps and chainsaws will leave you to navigate through the tale and face the evil residing within each hidden exit.

6. West Hartford Hauntings

This frightening tour of one of West Hartford’s oldest cemeteries is led by a guide who will take you through the grounds, stopping at several vignettes. These locations are based on events in the lives of real past residents of West Hartford and will let you encounter the souls of this town. Thes lantern-lit tours will tell the tales that will make you think twice about sleeping alone at night.

7. A Haunting at Mill Hill

This lantern-lit tour through the old Mill Hill graveyard takes you on an hour-long chilling tale of the eerie Norwalk spirits. The tour guide will share stories of death, murder, destruction, and mayhem. All of the stories including the mobster and murder victim, Luigi Apicella and rabies victim, Myron Olmstead, are true and researched by local historians. Watch your back throughout the tour as there may be a few bone-chilling surprises along the way.

8. Evidence of Evil

Evidence of Evil was founded back in 2016 by Robert Besaw and David Belas. Between the two of them, they have over 15 years of professional haunting experience. It is said that they “strive to push the boundaries to provide their audience with a thrilling experience into the darkest levels of fear.”

9. Legends Of Fear

Legends of Fear is ready to host all the haunted events you can handle. They are offering haunted hayrides and 5 other frightening attractions. You can join in on things like the Funhouse Of Fear, Dark Harvest, and Melon Head Revenge Trail. If you make it through these scary attractions you may want to reward yourself with a trip to the concession stand for some hot chocolate and freshly made donuts.

10. The Haunted Isle

Location: 17 River Street, East Haven, CT 06512

The Haunted Isle is a cool place to go if you want to be taken on a haunted journey in an old trolley car. You hop aboard the car and get taken to a gate…enter if you dare. What you find beyond the gate is a mystery. Join them for special events like Bikers Against Animal Cruelty on October 28th and 29th. Enjoy the delicious food from the variety of food trucks that will be visiting every weekend.

11. Nightmare Acres

The Clayton family lived at the Hollow estate but legend has it that they were consumed by evil after discovering ancient artifacts. The entire family disappeared back in the 1900’s but the artifacts were found again in 2016. The forgotten Clayton family spirits have returned to the estate and now haunt the area.
