Middletown, CT – Gather the family and head outdoors for a day of fun for a good cause. On October 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Community Health Center, Inc.’s (CHC) Connecticut Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program will host its first-ever Go Pink! Fun Fall Fest at Lyman Orchards. The day will include activities, games, light refreshments and information on community services and resources available to breast cancer patients and their families. Proceeds from the festival benefit the Connecticut Breast Cancer Coalition Foundation’s Emergency Fund, which provides financial assistance to breast cancer patients who need help with daily living costs.
“Breast cancer affects the whole family,” said Marie Rose, Community Health Center’s program manager for the Connecticut Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. “This event provides a great opportunity for families to spend quality time together and meet other members of the community while learning more about the disease and resources available. Breast cancer is the second-most common cancer among women in the United States. Knowledge and early detection are our best defense.”
Family activities will include a children’s Halloween costume contest, volleyball tournament, horseshoe pit and bocce ball, bobbing for apples, a pie-eating contest, potato sack races, water balloon games, raffles, hayrides and a deejay from Powerstation Events.
Women are encouraged to bring new or gently-used bras to donate to Athena’s Cup to help break the world record for the longest chain of bras and benefit breast cancer research. The bras will be donated to women’s shelters across Connecticut afterward. M. Spa will also offer free haircuts to those willing to donate 10 inches of hair to Locks of Love, which provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Representatives from the Middlesex Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Hereditary Risk Assessment Program and Curves for Women will also be in attendance.
