  • Elizabeth Park

Spanning over 100 acres between Hartford and West Hartford, Elizabeth Park is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. The grounds boast a number of stunning gardens, making it the perfect place for a picnic or a leisurely stroll. The park is open sunrise to sunset each day and admission is free.  

For lovers of the outdoors, a trip to one of Connecticut’s most beautiful hiking trails could be the adventure you’ve been looking for. Hiking is one great way to explore our amazing state and really soak up the sun and nature on display, especially in the spring and summer (but, really, all year long!). We’ve got so many state parks offering unique landscapes, rolling hills, and nature walks, that it would be a waste to stay inside.

  • Silver Sands State Park

Located in Milford, Silver Sands State Park is one of the best beaches the Connecticut shoreline has to offer. Visitors can enjoy a walk on the boardwalk, swimming and saltwater fishing for a fun-filled day in the sun. Although a sandbar provides access to the nearby Charles Island, visitors are cautioned against taking the trek as the changing tides can be very dangerous.

Stop by the Yale Peabody Museum for hours of educational fun (and dinosaurs!).

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: The Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History is one of my favorite places in all of Connecticut. I loved it as a kid, I loved it as a teenager, and I continue to love it as an adult. Check it out the next time you’re stuck inside on a rainy day, or when you’re looking for a new way to kill boredom.
