After being heckled on stage, stops telling jokes and turns against the crowd
Word spread rapidly last night via social media that Dave Chappelle had walked off the stage, implying after being heckled that he was tired and fed up with the tour.
“The next time I’m on television, and they interview me and they say ‘Why did you go back to Africa?’, I’m not gonna say Hartford did it.” he said, provoking a mix of laughter and heckling from the crowd.
“Boo yourself,” he said, “I want you to go home and look at yourself in the mirror and say boo.”
To use up the last few minutes he was contractually obligated to fulfill, he pulled up a stool and started smoking cigarette, sharing stories and making small talk with the crowd while they continued to boo him. At one point began reading a book handed to him from a woman in the audience, taking her business card.
As the anger continued to grow, he said “Good Lord, I better get out of here before somebody snipes me. Man this crowd sucks.”
You can hear some of the audio in videos below:
Chapelle tried to work through the yelling, and he told people he wasnt telling any jokes until they quieted down. And they didnt.

Watched Dave Chappelle melt down in Hartford — sad — amazing comic with a lot of talent. A few jerks in audience, but nothing extreme.
