It just isn’t Christmas until you’ve put up your tree. For my family, this has always been a tedious task, because we’ve always gone the artificial route (my mother’s allergic to pine), but a lot of people make a tradition out of packing up the family and going out in search of the perfect real tree to bring home and decorate.
If you’re looking for a Christmas tree farm near you, look no further. Below is a complete list of cut-your-own tree farms in Connecticut, listed by county.

Fairfield County
Castle Hill Farm
This Newtown farm has been family owned and operated since 1927. In addition to pumpkins and other goodies earlier in the season, Castle Hill Farm offers pre-cut or cut-your-own trees, handmade wreaths, and other holiday decorations. With more than 20 acres of trees to choose from, the farm recommends you bring a tarp to drag your tree with once you’ve cut it down. Cut-your-own trees go for $55.
Jones Family Farms
Jones Family Farms is in Shelton is one of my all-time favorite places to visit (as you can see by my review of their pumpkin patch). The farm consists of 200 acres of trees for you to hike through to find the perfect one for your family, in varieties like Blue Spruce, Fraser Fir, Douglas Fir, Balsam Fir, White Pine, and White Fir. Trees go for $70.
Maple Row Farm
Located in Easton, Maple Row Farm has been growing Christmas trees for more than 50 years, and prides itself on sustainable farming methods. Varieties that you can choose from include: Balsam Fir, Blue Spruce, Canaan Fir, Concolor Fir, Douglas Fir, Fraser Fir, Norway Spruce, White Pine, and White Spruce. Trees go for $65 on weekdays and $71 on weekends,
Warrup’s Farm
Warrup’s farm in Redding is a small family-owned operation that has been in business since 1878. They pride their tree selection as being “natural looking” and not overly sheared. Their selection is limited to White and Blue spruce, and go for $45 and up depending on the size.
Hartford County
Dzen Tree Farm
This South Windsor tree farm is open 7 days a week until Christmas Eve to make sure that you can have the best tree for your family, even if it means running out the day before Christmas! Though they don’t list information on tree varieties, the trees go for $50. The farm will provide saws if you can’t bring your own, and their four resident reindeer will be at the farm for the entire season, allowing your kids to get up close and personal with Santa’s favorite mode of transportation.
Karabin Farms
Karabin’s Farms in Southington offers visitors a choice of Fraser Fir, Douglas Fir, Balsam Fir, and Canaan Fir, either pre-cut or cut-your-own. Cut-Your-Own is only available Saturdays and Sundays during the season, and the farm provides saws and tree transport back to the farm. Trees go for $60 and includes free netting and assistance from staff in getting the tree attached to your car.
Rose’s Berry Farm
Located in Glastonbury, Rose’s Berry Farm grows a lot more than berries! They offer two varieties of tree: Fraser Fir and Blue Spruce. They will provide you with a saw if you need one, and help you transport the tree back to the shop for free netting and loading to your car. In addition to cutting your own tree, you can opt to “tag” a tree early in the season, reserving it for later, to ensure you get a choice of the best. You can then opt to come back and cut it yourself, or the staff can cut it for you to pick up whenever you are ready for it.
Litchfield County
Angevine Farm
Angevine Farm in Warren has been in continuous operation since 1868, having gotten started with Christmas trees 50 years ago. They offer a large selection of Blue Spruce, Meyers Spruce, Fraser Fir, Balsam Fir, Canaan Fir, Concolor Fir, and White Pine. Their cut-your-own price is $50 for any sized tree. Saws are available for your use, and netting costs $5. They also have a handy Christmas tree care guide that you can check out.
Averill Farm
Averill Farm in Washington is probably the oldest farm on our list—in operation since 1746 when it was purchased (stolen?) from a Native American chief. Their cut-your-own trees runs Fridays through Mondays. No information about price or selection is available.
Deeply Rooted Farms
Deeply Rooted Farms in Harwinton has been growing Christmas trees since 1973. With multiple tree stands available for your perusal, you’re sure to find the tree for your needs. Their selection includes Balsam Fir, Canaan Fir, Concolor Fir, Fraser Fir, White Spruce, Blue Spruce, Meyer Spruce, and White Pine. Tree tagging is specifically not allowed. The farms are open Friday through Sunday until Christmas Eve.
Laurel View Farm
This Brooklyn-based tree farm is family owned and operated. With over 85 acres of trees for you to choose from, they are open 7 days a week starting the day after Thanksgiving and ending on Christmas Eve. Their selection includes Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir, Korean Fir, Concolor Fir, and Blue and White Spruce. In addition to trees, they offer hayrides on the weekend and on select days will be showcasing local chainsaw artist Michael Higgins. Tree prices vary depending on height.
Middlesex County
Connwood Foresters
Located in Rockfall, Connwood Foresters is an interesting company that both grows its own trees but also manages woodlands for others (more than 30,000 acres managed in CT!). In addition to running a cut-your-own stand where trees go for $45, you can also decorate your own Christmas wreath for $15. They are open weekends only between Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you just want to pick out your tree, but don’t want to actually cut it yourself, they can do that for you.
Staehly Farm & Winery
Staehly’s in East Haddam is an easily-walkable 15 acre Christmas tree farm with thousands of trees for you to choose from. You can tag a tree starting the day after Thanksgiving, and complimentary Tree “shaking” and wrapping is offered throughout the season. They also provide carts for you to lug your trees with, and dogs are allowed on leashes. Trees go for $54 and are available 7 days a week.
New Haven County
Belinsky Farm
This Oxford tree farm is the only one on our list in New Haven County. They are open from 9am–5pm on weekends, and recommend you call them for their weekday hours, which depend on the weather (203-888-0322). Their tree selection includes Red Pine, Scotch Pine, Concolor Fir, and Blue Spruce. Prices vary depending on tree type.
New London County
Maple Lane Farms
This Preston farm offers 50 acres of cut-your-own trees to choose from. Their selection includes Balsam Fir, Fraser Fir, and Canaan Fir. The farm will provide you with saws, will transport the tree from the field to your car, and will provide you with tree “shaking” and baling. They are open 7 days a week from the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve.
Tolland County
Hickory Ridge Tree Farm
This Coventry tree farm has been growing Christmas trees in Connecticut since 1960. Their selection of trees includes Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir, Blue Spruce, White Spruce, White Pine, and Scotch Pine. In addition to trees, the farm sells wreaths, boughs, birch logs, and other holiday decorations. They are open every day until 4pm. The farm provides saws if needed, and has tree carts to make transporting your tree back to your car easier.
Pell Family Farm in Somers has been in operation since 1930. It’s been family-owned and run for four generations, and is a landmark in Tolland County. The trees are priced by height, with 6 to 7 foot trees costing $45 and larger trees (up to 14 feet!) costing $80. Their hours typically run 10am to 4pm Monday through Friday and 9am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Pre-cut trees are also available, and saws and twine are provided for those who would like to cut their own trees. Chainsaws are not allowed.
Windham County
Unfortunately, Windham County is the Grinch county on our list. Though it’s got farms that offer everything from apples to berries to pumpkins and more, there are no cut-you-own Christmas tree farms that I could find. I even checked the CT Department of Agriculture’s website, and they don’t list any cut-your-own Christmas tree farms in Windham either.
