Every year, American families come together to celebrate Independence Day by setting off fireworks. John Adams, one of the founding fathers, envisioned fireworks as part of the festivities to represent the birth of a new nation. On July 4, 1777, Congress gathered in Philadelphia’s Independence Square and celebrated with bonfires, bells, and fireworks. That tradition quickly passed on to other cities and towns, where people added picnics, games, contests, and military displays to the celebration. In 1870, Congress marked Independence Day as an official holiday.

Today, Americans continue to pass on the tradition each year to feel the true magic of what it means to be an American. When we sit under the stars and watch the fireworks, it reminds us all of what this country stands for.

Here’s our list of the 2017 fireworks happening in Connecticut, separated county by county. We’ll continue to add more information as it comes through, so let us know if you spot anything that has since changed, or if you know of a fireworks show that we missed!
