I will be starting a new feature, where I write about my favorite things and places around Connecticut. In this first installment I will be revealing my favorite Breakfast spot in the state. This honor falls upon The Corner Restaurant , in Milford. Located in beautiful downtown Milford, at 105 River street, The Corner Restaurant is not to be missed. If all you want is scrambled eggs or pancakes, they have them, but thats not the real draw. The main attraction is thier unique , specialty breakfast menu. Take the “Spiced Indian Duck Tortilla” for example, consisting of south indian mildy spiced pulled duck, wrapped in a bacon layered tortilla with scrambled eggs and cheese, and then seared. Or how about the “African Hash”? A spicy beef and lentil hash over an english muffin topped with poached eggs, crispy bacon, and a béarnaise sauce. Hungry yet? My wife Brooke’s favorite dish is the “Goat Cheese Medallions” which is crispy goat cheese medallions over grilled tomato on a Thomas’ english muffin topped with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. This brings me to my personal favorite dish that is served at The Corner Restaurant. The Beef Empanada!!! This king of breakfast foods is made up of a handmade crust stuffed with black beans, beef, onions, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese served over scrambled eggs and topped with a creamy hollandaise sauce ( I also always get a side of sausage as is Justin Henri breakfast tradition). Words cannot describe how much i love this meal.
The inside is small, charming, and decorated with various antiques. Its very popular on the weekends and is always packed, so be prepared to wait, but the staff is very friendly and gets your party seated as soon as possible. If you havent been to The Corner Restaurant, then what are you waiting for?
