Hartford, CT – The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art celebrates its continued collaboration with Hartford Public Schools with the 37th annual Hartford Youth Art Renaissance exhibition on view Saturday, May 8 through Sunday, June 6, 2010. This year the exhibition has been expanded to include an installation of student artworks at the main branch of the Hartford Public Library.
Featuring approximately seventy works of art at the Wadsworth and thirty works at the library, this year’s Hartford Youth Art Renaissance is a true city-wide display of art created by pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade students in the Hartford Public School District. This annual collaborative project showcases the museum’s continued commitment to its community engagement initiative, which includes daily free admission to students at Hartford Public Schools, free family programming from 10 am to 1 pm on the last Saturday of every month, the new education-based Connections Gallery, and the Museum on the Move school outreach program which launches on April 26th.
In addition to its collections and exhibitions, the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art has always been a resource for the local community and is continuing to find innovative ways to make the museum more accessible to current and future audiences through new programs and initiatives. Launched in June 2008, the museum’s community engagement initiative solicited feedback from community members and provided a framework to rethink how the Wadsworth could become more welcoming, engaging, and accessible with the goal of reaching new audiences in meaningful ways. In December of 2009, the Wadsworth was awarded a grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving to fund a number of new programs that will directly address community feedback and better engage its diverse community. The Hartford Youth Art Renaissance program continues to be at the forefront of this initiative.
The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art is located at 600 Main St. in Hartford, Connecticut. The Museum is open Wednesdays to Fridays, 11 am to 5 pm and Saturdays and Sundays, 10 am to 5 pm. Please visit www.wadsworthatheneum.org for more information.
