New Haven, CT – The annual Cherry Blossom Festival, a longstanding tradition in New Haven’s Historic Wooster Square, returns on Sunday, April 18th, 2010, from 1 to 5pm. The yearly festival brings large crowds of locals and visitors for food, music, crafts, vendors, and of course, cherry blossoms. The festival is a great and inexpensive way to bring in spring with the family.

This is the 37th year that people will come to celebrate the 72 cherry blossom trees that surround Wooster Square Park.  People enjoy music, food, and special events for children and adults at this well-known spring festival.

In the event of rain the festival will be postponed until Sunday, April 25th.

Entertainment will include music from the Neighborhood Music School Premier Jazz Ensemble, Tuxedo Junction Swing Band, and St. Luke’s Steel Band.

Choose from among delicious food offerings including Abate’s pizza and fried dough, Indian food from Swagat, La Carreta’s Mexican fare, Fuel veggie wraps, burgers and dogs from the Wooster Square Grill, Caseus’ grilled cheese sandwiches, Elm City Kettle Corn and cotton candy and Buccitti’s Italian ice and frozen chocolate-dipped bananas.

In addition there will be exhibits of local artists, authors and neighborhood cultural organizations such as the New Haven Preservation Trust, Friends of New Haven Animal Shelter, Greater New Haven Cat Project, author Anthony Riccio, Farnam Neighborhood House, International Festival of Arts and Ideas, New Haven Historical Society, Workout on Wooster, Wooster Square Historic Memorabilia and more.  Children can get their face painted or try some of Libby’s Cherry Blossom Cookies.
