West Haven, CT – The Center for Disability Rights 2010 Wheel-A-Thon to benefit young people with disabilities is a fundraising and community awareness campaign to benefit the youth programs and activities of the CDR and its partners.
Last year’s teams, on average, raised $717 each — an increase from $645 per team the year before. The top team fundraiser was Rick’s Rollers, who raised $2,600. All money raised went to support:
- 11 college scholarships for students with disabilities;
- Advocacy with students to improve their education;
- Communication access services for youth with hearing loss involved in peer support programs;
- Facilitation Services for youth groups; and
- CDR youth transition services.
The Wheel-A-Thon takes place Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, beginning at 9:30 a.m. the Savin Rock Conference Center, 6 Rock St., in West Haven, Connecticut.
It is a fun, important and eye-opening event for able-bodied people and those in wheelchairs designed to raise awareness of simple accessibility issues faced every day by those in wheelchairs.
