Thanksgiving weekend marks the beginning of the Holiday season.  And accordingly, there’s tons of holiday-spirited events going on all over Connecticut this weekend including tree lightings, fairs, and horse-drawn carriage rides.  If you’re not quite into the holiday-spirit just yet, try checking out the BEATexpo in downtown Stamford.   Here’s a list of events taken from our Event Calendar and Facebook page:

Holiday Sea of Trees

‘Tis the season to deck the halls with boughs of holly – and more than 20 Christmas trees! Everything is illuminated during the annual Holiday Sea of Trees, featuring themed trees decorated by local organizations. The magic takes place from November 27 to January 4 on the main exhibit floor, where the trees’ lights reflect off the exhibits’ glass to create a bright and festive atmosphere.Free with aquarium admission: Adults , seniors , children (ages 3 to 17) , free for children 2 and under. BEATexpo 2009

His concert performance will be in the hotel’s ballroom the night before, Sat., Nov. 28. ~Butch Patrick of The Munsters is best known for his role as “Eddie Munster.” A long-time Beatles fan and collector, he’ll meet fans, sign autographs, be available for photos and talk onstage on Sunday, Nov. 29. He’ll also be part of the Special Pre-Show Concert Event on Sat., Nov. 28. More guests of honor and celebrity appearances will be announced. Migrations: New Directions in Native American Art

Oct. 24 – Jan. 9 Migrations: New Directions in Native American Art This art exhibit showcases the work of six emerging Native artists who worked closely with master printers at Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, NM, and at Crow’s Shadow Press on the Umatilla Reservation in Oregon. Defined by varying influences of movement — between one time and another, between cultures, places, artistic mediums, and between obscurity and public attention – Migrations explores multiple creative themes and concepts and embraces both the modern and traditional. The six artists featured in this important show — Steven Deo, Tom Jones, Larry McNeil, Ryan Lee Smith, Star Wallowing Bull, and Marie Watt — represent a range of stylistic approaches, tribal affiliations, and media. A Glimpse of “Morning Glory”

Nov. 14 – Jan. 9 A Glimpse of “Morning Glory” In coordination with the exhibit, Migrations: New Directions in Native American Art, Mashantucket Pequot artist and filmmaker Ariel Merrill (Morning Glory) displays her contemporary artwork in the Atrium outside the Mashantucket Gallery. After studying classical and 3D animation at Vancouver Film School, Merrill earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Visual Studies at the University of British Columbia. She is currently working on her Master of Fine Arts in film at Regent University. This contemporary exhibit showcases some of the works she completed while studying in Vancouver between 2000 and 2005. Free with Museum admission, free to Museum members.

Maritime Miniatures

Family Fun Wreathmaking Workshop

Carriage Path – a WalkCT Family Ramble – last weekend of Nov.

Come explore the historic Case Brothers district and take a 3-mile hike to the summit of Case Mountain. We’ll look for a waterfall, stone walls, carriage path, and Case mansions, as well as forest and ponds. Wear sturdy shoes or sneakers and expect some wet spots, steep climbs, and bumpy terrain. Extreme weather cancels. DIRECTIONS: From Hartford, take I-84 eastbound to I-384, exit 4, right off exit ramp. Follow Spring Street down a curve and then down a steep hill, over a one-lane bridge. Parking along one side of Spring Street, with a little parking at the trail head. WalkCT Family Rambles are free as a public service to the children and families of Connecticut. Pre-registration is appreciated, but not required. This outdoor event is part of the WalkCT Family Rambles series. Santa Arrives by Tugboat

You may even spy a jolly old silver-haired fellow… could that be ol’ St. Nick? Lantern Light Tours are scheduled primarily Thursday through Sunday evenings. Each tour is an hour long moving performance and is not recommended for children under four. Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly for Friday and Saturday performances. Tree Lighting & Lighted Holiday Boat Parade

The tree lighting will be promptly at 6:00pm, then stay for a spectacular light parade! Work Party – Barkhamsted

We will be removing dead wood and tree tops (that have finally hit the ground) from various sections of trail. I need several people with chain saws, as we can work more than one section of trail at a time,and people to haul brush and do some brushing. Work wouldstart at 9:00 am at designated trail access. Children’s Nutcracker Sugarplum Party

An abbreviated version of the Nutcracker, choreographed for children, will be performed at the Nutcracker Sugar Plum Party on November 29th. 2nd Annual Operation ELF Benefit Wrestling Show
