2009 Corn Maze Adventure

Woodstock Fair

Camelot

Center for Disability Rights 2009 Wheel-A-Thon

The Center for Disability Rights 2009 Wheel-A-Thon is a fundraising and community awareness campaign to benefit the youth programs and activities of the Center for Disability Rights in West Haven and its partners. The Wheel-A-Thon will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 11, 2009, at the Savin Rock Conference Center, 6 Rock St., West Haven. Teams consisting of two to six people will navigate a one-mile course along the West Haven shoreline with a wheelchair. Prizes will be given to the top fundraising teams. There will be a free picnic and awards ceremony following the event. It is a fun, important and eye-opening event for able-bodied people and those in wheelchairs designed to raise awareness of simple accessibility issues faced every day by those in wheelchairs. Four-hundred people participated, including individual and corporate sponsors and the nearly 200 people who attended the event at Savin Rock Conference Center.

Shake, Waggle & Roll

Visit with: shelters, pounds and vendors. Bring an open heart! A donation of canned food—-cat or dog—per person is being requested. A bag of pet food will admit a family. Your donations will help supply AWL’s Pet Food Bank for clients of Groton Social Services and will be given to animals at Groton’s new Animal Control facility. Shelters and rescuers can’t be the only answer to displaced animals in need! We need more responsible, loving homes. It may be true “saving one pet won’t change the world but surely the world will change for that one pet…” What is equally true is we each can make a difference in the life of a homeless animal. Birds of the Outback

Our feathered friends from down under are back to summer at Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration. “Birds of the Outback,” the only exhibit of its kind in New England, returns on May 2. The enclosed 1,200-square-foot aviary houses hundreds of colorful cockatiels, parakeets and rosellas, all native to Australia. With the exhibit entry fee (plus aquarium admission), guests receive a millet seed stick for feeding the birds. Once inside the exhibit, where the friendly birds sing and fly freely, simply hold the stick in the air and watch them swoop down to perch on your arm and eat right out of your hands! Guests will also learn about the birds’ habitat and behaviors, as well as the issues and challenges currently facing birds in the wild. Cost is plus aquarium admission per person.

Muscular Dystrophy Association Holding Tenth Annual ‘Run to the Sun’ Fundraiser

Where: event begins at 9 a.m. at the Glastonbury Elks Lodge 2202, located at 98 Woodland Street in South Glastonbury and ends at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT
The local office of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will be holding its tenth annual ‘Run to the Sun’ event on Labor Day, September 7, 2009. Motorcyclists from across the state will once again help MDA raise funds this upcoming Labor Day by joining in on a motorcycle run beginning in South Glastonbury and ending at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn. Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m. at the Glastonbury Elks Lodge 2202, located at 98 Woodland Street in South Glastonbury. There will be a cash breakfast available at the Lodge for those interested. Motorcyclists will then depart for their run from the Lodge at 11 a.m. A donation of or more to participate in the ride will entitle the rider to an event pin, a t-shirt, and a buffet at Mohegan Sun. Those who pre-register by August 31 and raise over for MDA can participate in the pre-registration party, being held the day before the run, September 6, at Mohegan Sun Ballroom. Participants can pre-register for the event at www.mdaruntothesun.com. This event is being sponsored by Mike’s Famous H-D, the Glastonbury Elks Lodge, and Mohegan Sun. It is being organized by the New London County Harley Owner’s Group.
