MYSTIC, CT -  The Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport presents the 30th anniversary of the International Marine Art Exhibition September 27 through November 15.

All works in the exhibition are available to view and purchase Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Admission to the Maritime Gallery is free and a portion from all Gallery purchases helps support maritime preservation work at the Museum. The Gallery is closed Sundays (except for September 27 and October 11). The entire exhibition can be viewed online at www.mysticseaport.org/gallery beginning September 19.

“This year we’re honored to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport with our annual International Marine Art Exhibition,” said Jeanne Potter, director of the Maritime Gallery. “America’s maritime history continues to be retold in paintings, sculpture, ship models and scrimshaw by the select group of gifted marine artists represented in this show. A number of these artists have been participating in the prestigious International juried exhibition from its inception in 1979.”

The exhibit celebrates the timeless beauty of the sea in the most comprehensive exhibition of contemporary marine art in the nation. More than 125 works will be on display, including paintings of majestic ships, racing yachts, coastal scenes of waterways, beach and marshlands, marine wildlife in their natural habitat and the working boats and people whose lives and fortunes depend on the sea.

The 120 artists who were chosen for this year’s show come from the United States, as well as from 11 countries from around the world. Noted participating artists include Peter Layne Arguimbau; David Bareford, F. ASMA; Ian Marshall, F. ASMA; Victor Mays, F. E. ASMA and Yves Parent, ASMA.

Eight prestigious named awards and five awards of excellence—including the Rudolph J. Schaefer Maritime Heritage Award, which recognizes the work that best documents our maritime heritage, past or present, for future generations —will be given by three invited judges. Featured judges for this year’s show are Vice President of American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture at Sotheby’s New York Elizabeth Beaman; pre-eminent yacht designer and founder of J/Boats Inc. Rodney Johnstone and Maritime Gallery Patron and Mystic Seaport Trustee Emeritus Rudolph J. Schaefer III.
