Westport gallery launches nation’s first curbside art service

The nation’s first Curbside Art Concierge program has been formally launched by the Westport River Gallery in Westport, Connecticut. The program is designed to assist parents of young children, older citizens, and those with temporary or permanent disabilities.
“So many times parents of young children have to quickly run in and out of the gallery to see art, leaving one parent in the car as the children sleep. So we came up with the idea to help them, and others who cannot get into the gallery easily,” said Ken Warren, director/curator of the fine art gallery on Riverside Avenue.
Warren, who with his wife Patricia opened the gallery in Connecticut’s Gold Coast five years ago, said he recently did online research and could not find another gallery in the United States with a similar service.
He said people can go to WestportRiverGallery.com, read their e-newsletter from the gallery about new art, or from their car visit the window. “When they see art they like, they can just call us, let us know what may be of interest, and we can arrange to have it brought out for their closer inspection. If they like the art, but the children need attention, they can drive around the block and we’ll take care of the sale. We then call them when the picture is packed and ready to roll,” he said.
Warren added, “Fine art is enjoyable for people of all ages, and even if they have young children, or cannot get into the gallery, they should still be able to enjoy fine art.” In the event of rain, Warren said, he would go outside under an umbrella.
Westport River Gallery specializes in American, European and Asian Fine art by credentialed, published artists from throughout the world. Artists include Dubord, Kerfily, Pissarro, Estivalet, Zheng, Zider, Brown, Perez, Vitello, Sage, Saffer and others. The gallery is at One Riverside Avenue, Westport, CT.
