This Weekend in Connecticut: June 26th-28th
Penfield Beach Sand Sculpture Festival
When: Thu, Jun 25
Where: Penfield Beach, Fairfield, CT, near Penfield 2 Pavilion
Fairfield Beach Residents Association’s 2nd annual “Penfield Beach Sand Sculpture Festival” promises to be twice as fun as last year’s event. Master Sculptors Sean and Tracey Fitzpatrick — whose most recent TV appearance was on “Good Morning America” on May 25 — have planned an even larger project than in 2008, when their 9-ton, 8-foot-tall Penfield Lighthouse complete with Mermaid was the talk of the town! This year they will be joined by Grand Master Sculptor Suzanne Altamare of Daytona, Florida, who will create a separate sculpture. A total of 20 tons of new sand will be brought to Penfield Beach and used to create this year’s Sand Sculptures. Also featured is a “Sand Sculpting Contest” for amateurs on Sunday, June 28, from 9:15-11:15 a.m., sponsored by the Fairfield Police Athletic League, plus many other events. It’s a great way for families to enjoy our beautiful beach, get some fresh air, and watch these artists create something magic out of sand.
